The Great Swim Series is the UK's biggest exhibition of open water swimming and on Saturday 23rd August the Great Scottish Swim is taking place in the picturesque waters of Loch Lomond for its second year. This stunning freshwater loch offers the chance to swim in Britain's largest stretch of inland water. The Great Scottish Swim is a fantastic challenge for all abilities and you can choose to swim ½ mile, 1 mile or 2 miles.
The ½ mile Wave is a great introduction to outdoor swimming. It is equivalent to around 32 lengths of a 25m pool and should take around 20 minutes to complete. Perfect for newcomers to the sport, this swim is suitable for 12 years old and above.
The 1 mile Wave is again suitable for swimmers of all abilities and is equivalent to 64 lengths of a 25m pool taking around 40 minutes to complete and entrants must be 16 years old and above.
The 2 mile Wave is the perfect event for open water swimmers looking for a longer challenge. Equivalent to around 125 lengths of a 25m pool the average time to complete this distance in the water is around 1hr 15 min. Again entrants must be 16 years old and above. All events require a wetsuit.
20,000 people signed up to take part in the Great Swim throughout the UK in 2013, raising hundreds of pounds for charity in the process. Why not get involved in Scotland’s biggest outdoor swimming event in stunning Loch Lomond this summer. Take a leisurely breaststroke and enjoy the scenery or kick into crawl for a faster time!
Registration for 2014 is now open and you can secure a place at the Great Swim website.
