Secrets of the Celtic Rainforest

Secrets of the Celtic Rainforest is a Plantlife Scotland project raising awareness of the international importance of these forests and unlocking the secrets of the unique species that dwell within them. They are a habitat known as temperate rainforest, a rare habitat worldwide - even rarer than tropical rainforests! They have a mild and wet climate where species like lichens, mosses and liverworts thrive. Wild flowers, plants and fungi are the life support for all Scotland's wildlife and their colour and character light up our mountains, glens, lochs and islands. But without our help, this priceless natural heritage is in danger of being lost. Find the secrets of a Celtic rainforest in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park this spring and plan a species-spotting trip with Plantlife Scotland.

Camping Byelaws in the National Park

For those who enjoy camping, caravanning or touring in a motorhome or campervan, the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park is a fantastic place to head for. Be aware that between 1st March to 30th September, certain byelaws are in force. They cover less than 4% of the park and cover the most cherished loch shores. In these Camping Management Zones, camping is only allowed in specific areas by booking a campsite place or by obtaining a camping permit. Be aware of the byelaws and plan your trip in advance. For further information, see Camping at Loch Lomond Byelaws.

Skylark IX Recovery Trust

The Skylark IX is a Dunkirk Little Ship, which rescued 600 Allied troops during World War II, is to be restored and turned into a floating museum on the River Clyde, thanks to a £400,000 lottery grant which was awarded to the Trust. The boat, built in 1927, was used for cruises on Loch Lomond and became part of the Dunkirk Little Ships fleet of 850 boats.  The boat sank in 2010 in the River Leven at Loch Lomond after falling into disrepair and was raised by the Royal Navy following a campaign by veterans supporting the Skylark IX Recovery Trust. She has played her part, now play your part in history.
