Loch Lomond provides the largest fresh water loch in Scotland and is home to a large variety of fish. The loch provides idyllic surroundings and conditions for the keen angler.

Fishing Facts
In the southern reaches, there have been taken specimens of deep sea fish, although these probably made their way to the loch from the sea via the River Leven.
The powan, a fresh water herring is found in only one other loch in Scotland. It is believed to be a descendent of the herring family, having been stranded during the Glacial period when the loch was first cut off from the sea. Like herring, the powan has to be netted. The MacFarlanes, at Balmaha have this right of netting handed down to them. The most common fish in the loch is pike.

These lines crop up again and again in folk legends of the loch. Fish without fin probably relates to the eels which are abound in the waters and grow to considerable size.
