Seven Wonders of the UK award for Loch Lomond

STAY-at-home holidaymakers have voted Loch Lomond one of the Seven Wonders of the United Kingdom.     The bonnie banks is the only Scottish location among the top seven visitor attractions in a new poll of over 50s who are increasingly choosing a ‘staycation’ – a holiday in the United Kingdom rather than travelling abroad.

The full list of the Seven Wonders of the UK are: 1. Stonehenge; 2. The White Cliffs of Dover; 3. Cheddar Gorge; 4. The Giant’s Causeway; 5. Loch Lomond; 6. Snowdon; 7. York Minster.

Fiona Logan, chief executive of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, described the survey result as “a real accolade for Loch Lomond.    There is really no better place in the world to be than on the shores of the loch – at any time of the year and it is a privilege here at the national park to be a part of looking after this really special place.”

Wedding Industry Award For Loch Lomond Wedding Cars

Loch Lomond Wedding Cars

A Loch Lomond company has reached the final of a prestigious wedding industry award.    Carrs Loch Lomond is down to the final four in the transport section of the VOWS (Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier) Awards - considered the ‘Oscars’ of the industry.    The Gartocharn-based family firm, which has been operating for just over two years, has beaten dozens of other wedding car companies to be nominated.  Now the company is looking forward to the awards night at the Glasgow Hilton on November 7, when the winners will be announced. All four members of the Carr family are involved in the day to day running of the business, which also carries out a range of chauffeur and contract work

Michelin Award for Loch Lomond Restaurant

Congratulations to Martin Wishart and his team at Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond, who have been awarded a Michelin star for the restaurant located within the luxurious Cameron House on the banks of beautiful Loch Lomond.

A core team of senior chefs and waiters fully trained in the Edinburgh restaurant have moved West to recreate a similar experience to the restaurant in Leith.   Martin, the protégé of Michel Roux and Marco Pierre White visits his restaurant at Loch Lomond regularly.

He said: "The team at the Cameron House restaurant is very deserving of this recognition and my thanks go to head chef Stewart Boyles, as well as Miguel Rivero, who was recently promoted to restaurant manager and has been at the Loch Lomond restaurant since it opened in 2008.”

Stewart, the Scots-Canadian who has been head chef at Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond since its launch in 2008, told The Herald: “This award is a welcome and long-awaited acknowledgment of all the consistent hard work we’ve put in. We’re all feeling fantastic, though we feel we’ve deserved this star for at least the last two years.”

“This has to be good for the west of Scotland. The fantastic local, seasonal ingredients we get to use here are unparalleled and I like to think we are helping them gain in reputation. Our clientele expects local game, beef and fish. We currently serve local partridge and scallops, and at one point even had Loch Lomond pike on the menu. I’m very much looking forward to building on what we’ve achieved here.”

The award marks the first time a Scottish chef has held a Michelin star for two separate properties – the Martin Wishart restaurant at Leith earned Edinburgh its first Michelin star 10 years ago.
