Luss was the setting for the rather uninspiring Scottish soap, Take The High Road, but it is easy to see why the producers would choose it as an idyllic snapshot of Scottish life. Over 200 species of birds, and more than a quarter of Britain’s plant species can be found in the immediate vicinity of Loch Lomond; little wonder why it is so popular with holidaymakers. Luss is an ideal venue for those keen to get a bit of peace and quiet – especially on the off season; its pier has launched a number of loch cruises, and the water taxi that embarks from Luss will take visitors to Balmaha or Balloch.
Classic cottages, quaint gift shops and traditional tea rooms as well as contemporary dining and accommodation.
Stunning panoramic views across the loch to Ben Lomond and beyond. This is one of the finest views in the world!
Luss Parish Church
The churchyard contains interesting stones dating from the 7th and 8th centuries and is well worth visiting. The church itself contains many fine features including a beautiful rafted roof and magnificent stained glass windows.
Stroll along the sandy beach and be amazed at the ever changing colours and scenery. A memory to keep with you forever.
Things To Do at Luss
Sailing, fishing, water skiing, kayaking, walking, climbing, cycling, mountain biking, trekking, horse riding, loch cruises and more.
Luss Highland Gathering
The first gathering of note occurred in 1875 and apart from two unavoidable postponements during the two world wars, the games have taken place every year since.
Throughout the years the Gathering has remained relatively unchanged in character. Traditional events such as tossing the caber, throwing the hammer, hill races and many more have been retained; and no Highland Gathering would be complete without the skirl of the pipes and the colourful Highland dancers. The setting for the Gathering is unmatched in the whole of Scotland and the Luss Highland Games take place in July of each year and is well worth attending.
